Would you like help to get to grips with GPS technology?

Whether you are a complete novice just thinking that GPS may be a useful navigational tool, someone who has never managed to get to grips with the technology, or a GPS user who just wants to learn more, we have a course that will suit your needs and at a venue not too far from where you live.

Map & Compass

As many of our customers like to brush up on their basic navigation skills before taking getting up to speed with GPS, we provide two courses that can provide you with the essential map reading skills needed to help you navigate safely and confidently with or without a GPS. However you will discover that all the basic information learnt during a Map & Compass course will apply when using GPS and maps too.

As Geraldine, our course tutor, is a qualified National Navigation Award instructor and there is a demand from our customers to become more proficient and qualified, we are offering several dates this year that lead to the NNAS Bronze Level Award. This is a two day course leading to the National Navigation Award Scheme bronze level qualification. This requires you to be able to navigate in the countryside using paths, tracks and other linear features, as well as basic map interpretation and compass work.

GPS Training Courses

Picking your way through the minefield of conflicting advice about the best GPS for your needs is not easy. The smart way to do this is to learn how the system works before you invest. Our initial one day course Getting Started with GPS and Digital Maps is all about the basic use of GPS. How the GPS system works, correct GPS set up, how to create and use marks, waypoints & routes followed by an introduction to using the power of mapping software to make GPS route planning easy.

As its name suggests, Going Further with GPS and Digital Maps is the next step on the way to a complete understanding of how to get the best from your GPS. The day reviews basics and moves on to the use of routes and trackbacks in the field. The course ensures that you will be able to transfer coordinates/routes from a GPS to a digital mapping software system like Memory-Map. There will also be an opportunity to get hands-on with Memory-Map during a structured tutorial.

These two days are designed to naturally follow on from each other and in most cases are run on consecutive days. However if you would like to attend both courses on different weekends you would still qualify for the £8 discount available if both courses are booked at the same time.

Memory-Map made Easy

New for 2008 this courses is for GPS users who would like to maximise the use of this award winning software system. Using a mixture of classroom and outdoors exercises you will learn how to create waypoints & routes, import trails from Internet based walks websites like Walkingworld, and transfer the data to your GPS
