New for 2010 the Oregon 450 & 450t update and replace the 200,300 & 400 Oregon's - they add a sunlight readable touchscreen, 3 axis electronic compass, and faster processor to enable quicker redrawing of maps all of which add up to an impressive list of improvements to the Oregon Range and is compatible with Garmin's GB OS Discoverer 50k mapping (for compatible Garmin units like the Colorado, Dakota 20 and Oregon Ranges) on no hassle plug & play micro SD cards.

At present Garmin inform us that as yet they have no single micro card capable of take whole GB so GB is split into 3 Regions (Scotland, Northern England & Midlands, Southern England & Wales) as per the map above with a RRP of £119.99 each. We understand that whole GB on one micro SD card may be on the cards soon (we'll keep you posted)

As with maps on your PC OS mapping for your GPS at 50k scale is more reasonably priced and offer more mapping for your money and as with maps for your PC we recommend you purchase large chunks of 50k mapping to give you the coverage and then perhaps a National Parks title like say Lakes in areas where you concentrate your walking.

Our experience of using Discoverer OS mapping in the field is that the most important advantage of using a full OS map as against Topo is that the OS map offers the full Rights of Way data, don't get us wrong we like Topo but given the choice we would always go for OS 50k because we can rely on the footpath data.

In addition being brutally honest with the screen sizes of all these GPS products and we include the Satmap in this 50k mapping makes more sense. With 25k mapping you see such a small area of map its easier to orientate yourself in 50k mapping.
