July 2011 sees the launch of the Mantana Range of GPS by Garmin in the UK; there will be three units in the range the 600, 650 & 650t. Essentially its a big brother for the Oregon range offering all the usual Oregon benefits like sunlight readable touchscreen, free route planning using Basecamp, Worldwide basemap with shaded relief, 3 Axis Electronic Compass, Wireless sharing of data (with compatible device), Hotfix WAAS Enabled GPS reciever, Navteq Auto Routing (with OS Discoverer mapping), Paperless Geocaching.

Additional features offered by the Monata range include 4 inch display, dual-orientation and optional 5 mega pixel camera. We suspect that the new Montana 600 OS GB bundle will be the most popular device in the range with our customers; many of whom will appreciate the dual-orientation screen and voice prompts and for many the extra £80 won't break the bank.

The Montana 650 adds 5 mega pixel camera and the Montana 650t adds 5 mega pixel camera & 1:100k topographical mapping for 29 countries in Europe.

Used with OS Discoverer maps you can navigate on the hill using direct routes or in the car where it will give you turn by turn driving instructions.

Used with City Navigator maps if offers spoken, turn-by-turn driving directions; the device comes with a selection of compatible mounts. and can be used as a handheld, in car (on/off road), on a boat, or with a rugged mount on a motorcycle. Wherever you think you might take Montana, it has the mapping and mounts to get you there.

When you purchase a Montana OS map bundle from GPST; not only will you be able to use Garmin's free PC software (BaseCamp) for route planning, data management, and for sending user data like routes & trails to the device etc.

With a Montana you can share your waypoints, tracks, routes and geocaches wirelessly with other compatible Garmin GPS users. So now your friends also can enjoy your favorite hike or cache – simply press “send” to transfer your information to similar units, and let the games begin.

With its high-sensitivity, WAAS-enabled GPS receiver and HotFix® satellite prediction, Montana 600 locates your position quickly and precisely and maintains its GPS location even under heavy  tree cover.

The device offers a built-in 3-axis tilt-compensated electronic compass, which shows your heading even when you’re standing still, without holding it level. Its barometric altimeter tracks changes in pressure to pinpoint your precise altitude, and you even can use it to plot barometric pressure over time, which can help you keep an eye on changing weather conditions.

The Montana features a one-of-a-kind dual battery system. You’ll have the option of using the rechargeable lithium-ion pack or traditional AA batteries – whichever suits your needs better.

All new generation Garmin units are geocaching friendly; the Montana supports geocaching GPX files for downloading geocaches and details straight to your unit. Visit the new Garmin supported Geocaching website OpenCaching.com to start your geocaching adventure. By going paperless, you're not only helping the environment but also improving efficiency. Montana stores and displays key information, including location, terrain, difficulty, hints and descriptions, which means no more manually entering coordinates and paper print outs! Simply upload the GPX file to your unit and start hunting for caches
