We’ve had a chance to test this new Memory-Map branded GPS on our courses and on the hill and like what we see. In our evaluation w e have found the unit confirms the good reports we had been hearing in the trade. That Memory-Map had moved on from their previous partnership with Road Angel where the offering was the Road Angel Adventurer; a waterproof and rugged PDA with integrated GPS that offered Road Angel SatNav software and MM Mobile in one unit, a disadvantage to many purchasers particularily walkers who just wanted to use the device for navigation on the hill rather than as a SatNav.

At this point it’s worth explaining what we mean by Memory-Map Mobile; most software systems like MM allow you hold the software on 2 PC’s (a laptop and a PC for instance) and then offer an application that can be copied to a mobile device or PND (personal navigation device)pocket PC or PDA.

What does all this mean? The Adventurer offers a solution to the old issue of buying you maps twice; if you have MM on your PC and MM Mobile on your PND then you can not only copy your overlay files like waypoints & routes but either the whole or a portion on the map itself. It’s a two stage process first you select the map you wish to copy and then you transfer the overlays which will be seen overlaid on the map.
