Why Choose Us?

About GPS Training

We are a small company based in Cumbria dedicated to helping walkers and outdoor enthusiasts learn how to explore and use the latest GPS Technology to navigate safely wherever they might find themselves. We are committed to giving you the highest possible level of training and assistance to achieve your goals.

GPST was formed in 2003 by Peter Judd & Simon Brown who are both Lake District National Park Voluntary Rangers. We initially delivered courses in Cumbria but as demand has grown, we have expanded nationwide. We haven’t lost sight of the fundamentals that motivated us to form our company and our intention is to stay a small focussed company giving a 'second to none' personal service.

We have built a small but highly knowledgeable team of experts (mostly drawn from our circle of friends and ranger colleagues) able to provide first class personal training. We’re fussy about where we deliver our training and prefer to use village halls in scenic locations.

You can be sure when you come on one of our courses you will be in the hands of a team of friendly experts who enjoy passing on their accumulated knowledge to like-minded enthusiasts in an enjoyable and relaxed way, all taking place at venues with walking straight out of the door.

Why Choose Us?

We are the acknowledged market leaders in our field and the only approved training partner for all the market leaders. Our courses explain in an easy and friendly way how to get the best from your GPS, don't be worried about all the jargon and technology; all is explained as we go along.

We provide laptops with Memory-Map™ V5 3D digital maps available for small groups to work with and ensure all students understand how to link these systems to their GPS.

If you haven't got a GPS yet or would like to try a different model, we'll discuss your needs and, where possible, loan you one for the course so you can try it out. Outdoor exercises are usually straight out of the door into beautiful parkland or open countryside.

Sir Chris recommends our Courses, Book, and DVD!

We are immensely proud that our GPS courses, our DVD, and our book have been endorsed by mountaineering legend Sir Chris Bonington CBE. We would like to pay tribute to Sir Chris and acknowledge the immense amount of work he does for the local community here in Cumbria.

We have been lucky enough to work with him on a number of projects including the launch of Topo GB by Garmin at Blenheim Palace earlier this year and on several of his recent trips to places far and wide.

We work with all the Market Leaders

In addition we are delighted to be approved training partners by all the market leaders Garmin®, Magellan®, Memory-MapTM and Silva®. As you can see you'll be in expert hands when you come on one of our courses

We live and breathe our National Park

All the team share a passion for the Lake District, and met through the National Park Voluntary Rangers Service where navigation is an important part of being able to assist folk on the fells.
