Endura Launches Endura GPS Range for

Outdoor GPS Navigation

Lowrance have been in the business of manufacturing GPS and mapping solutions since the concept of the GPS System; it would be fair to say that to date the main focus of the efforts to date in the UK & Europe have been in the marine market where their products have a deserved reputation as the best available in the field.

The Endura range is made up of three units the Out&Back, Safari and Sierra; the range of handheld GPS is already established in the USA and is now coming to the UK and Europe; all the units offer

  • Enhanced GPS plus WAAS positioning
  • Access to Lowrance and NAVTEQ mapping
  • Micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB of storage of waypoints, routes, trails, geocaches, and pictures.
  • Instantly mark your position using 190 assorted outdoor waypoint icons
  • Trip computer lets you record details of your trails, map elevation changes
  • Offers quick access to all functions using gloves using physical buttons
  • Photo Viewer & Video Player are compatible with standard file formats

The Endura and UK Ordnance Survey Mapping

The secret to working out which unit is best for your needs is to firstly think about the mapping you plan to use in the unit. Lowrance have produced their own outdoor OS mapping for the Endura range; however quality issues have limited its use with with the Safari and Sierra GPS; Out&Back owners will only be able to access OS mapping using the Quo Mobile XT solution described below

One of the interesting features of the Endura range is that you can run windows based mobile mapping software on the unit; to overcome the issues around their OS mapping Lowrance have come to an agreement with Mapyx (Quo) to provide a mobile mapping solution that will work on the full Endura range of GPS

Essentially Quo have written a dedicted software solution for the Endura Range; allowing users to route plan on their PC using their Quo PC software and then copy both data and maps to Quo XT which is pre-loaded to a microSD card that comes with the package.
