item features

The Oregon 650 is packed full of some great features.

•   Comes with a 8mb camera which also geotags the location you took each of the pictures.

•   Combining the GPS and GLONASS satellite network gives access to up to 24 extra satellites and means locking on is more accurate and approximately 20% faster, while Hotfix® satellite prediction maintains GPS location even in heavy cover or deep valleys.

•  The 3-axis compass has automatic tilt adjustment that ensures an accurate bearing whether you're moving, resting, or holding the unit at an angle. A barometric altimeter logs your altitudeand can be used over time to build up a picture of changing weather conditions.

•   The ability to pinch-zoom and tilt between portrait and landscape views makes it easy to get your bearings quickly, and the screen is very responsive even when wearing most types of gloves. Full track view is a new feature that allows you to see your entire elevation view and quickly move to any point, while future plot uses mapping data to tell you what to expect ahead. Free BaseCamp™ software can be downloaded from Garmin and allows you to view and organise your maps, waypoints, routes and tracks in 2D or 3D before uploading to the unit for use on the go.

•    The Oregon 650 is also Bluetooth compatible which enables smartphone connectivity via the BaseCamp mobile app, so you can share your adventures online as you travel. Large files like custom maps and routes can also be transferred to other Oregon 650 series units, and the ANT wireless capability means you can connect with optional extras like heart rate or temperature sensors to add an extra level of detail to your experience. Large numbers of geocaching GPX files can be downloaded straight to the unit for paperless geocaching, with the unit displaying location, terrain and difficulty as well as hints and tips where available. Caches can be easily filtered to make searching as simple as possible.

Thanks for all your advice today on the telephone before buying the GPS. So nice to speak to something who knew something about Garmin GPS units. Looking forward to receiving my new GPS unit tomorrow.

I have had an Oregon 650 for about 6 months now and really like it. One of the most impressive bits is the screen. The brighter the sun gets the better it looks. It is just the right size to hold in your hand and also having a camera built in is a great bonus. Great unit all round.

Having not used a GPS for many years, I was unsure what model i needed to replace very aged eTrex. After various research, I ended up with the Garmin 650, and I am glad that I did, its easy to set up and use and has so far proved great for my walking and my wildlife photography. Really looking forward to using it more over the months and years ahead.Having previously used Memory map software, the idea of using it with my Mac appealed and i found that the Garmin interface is easy to use and understand on my iMac which was one of the reasons why I chose this ahead of some other units that did not seem as comparable with a MAC.

Have had mine for about 9 months now and the camera version is worth the extra money.I also bought the OS maps and they load quickly and it is very easy to use. When coupled to basecamp software I have managed never to get lost , it has also given me confidence to go off route now and explore further.

Following your excellent advice, I bought the Oregon 650. This has paid for itself several times over as I walk a lot on the moors which are not well walked so at times I have to make my own path. Prior to purchase I got lost on several occasions but the unit has been invaluable always getting me back on track and home safely.

After much research, I bought my Oregon 650 12 months ago. I had previously owned a basic Garmin (no maps in those years!) and a Mio A701 Digiwalker. The Oregon 650 performs so much better, with accurate and quick position fixes. The one thing that amazed me when I first saw the screen was its clarity, plus the fact that in most daytime conditions (even bright sunlight) I can read the screen with no backlight! The secondary implication of this is, of course, much longer battery life; I regularly use it for all day walks without worrying about losing power. I did, as an extra, purchase whole UK on 1:25,000, which I feel is worthwhile as all field boundaries are marked. The Oregon 650 has plenty of memory and processor capacity to smoothly transition from road to 1:50,000 to 1:25,000 when zooming in or out...incredible!As you can guess, I would strongly recommend this unit - look after it (with a screen protector) and it should give many years of trustworthy service.

the best part of this model is its excellent for dinosaurs who have very basic computer skills! Touch screen is fantastic & contains all the info you need on a walk. Venture onto remote areas with confidence!

I bought the Garmin Oregon 650 soon after they came on the market from GPSTraining. The screen is very sharp and bright only requiring the back light in very dull or dark conditions. The onboard camera is a great boon for the times when I don't have my standalone camera with me. It is great for Geocaching, walking and cycing with the cycle mount. We sometimes use it as a car SatNav when set to Automotive and using the OS Navteq map. I call the directions to my wife while she is driving. The size is just right for carrying in the pocket. All in all, a great piece of kit.

I contacted gpstraining after much research, should have done it much sooner, their advice was spot on, The Garmin Oregon 650 is great, does everything I was told it would and everything I have thought of over the last 6 months, I would not be with out it. Easy to use, great screen, clear and sharp, and battery life is not an issue. It was delivered on time and worked streight out of the box, being set up by gpstraining, I would recommend both the product and gps training with confidence.

Bought in May 2015 after much research. Delivery was prompt and service during purchase and afterwards was all excellent. I was initially concerned about battery life, as the power levels went from 4 bars to 2 in a couple of hours. However, the display stayed at 2 bars for ages afterwards and I think this is just the way the device is - ie experience has shown the battery life is as advertised. So many features on this GPS, I'm still working through them. This has done what I wanted it to - got me (and Mrs K) out of the house and into the great outdoors, much of which is on our doorstep. Confidence has been boosted so we are happy to explore off piste, without the worry of getting lost. A great piece of kit.
