Garmin Vivofit - all about

I first got introduced to the Garmin Vivofit a couple of months ago at the ‘on the edge’ event in the Lake District. A number of loyal Vivofit users told me how useful they had found it.

So the following week both Jane and I put the Vivofits on our wrist for the first time. It took literally two minutes to set up so they synced with both our mobile phones and computers. From then our lives would change as all our activity and sleep would be recorded 24 hours a day 7 days a week. We never take them off, they are waterproof, shockproof and even tell the time!

The Garmin Vivofits have certainly motivated us to achieve our goals each day. It is recommended that you take 10,000 steps per day, but when you achieve this on a regular basis on the Vivofit the target gradually increases.

Every time you are near your phone or computer you just press the sync button and all the data is uploaded to the Garmin connect. It is truly fascinating and so interesting to see how your life looks on a computer screen.

It really does make you get out and get those steps in. When you settle in front of the TV in the evening and glance at the Vivofit at 8,500 steps I will get straight back out and after a short 15 minute walk I have reached my goal of 10,000 steps. I am determined to see no blue bars in my graph on Garmin Connect only green ones!

The sleeping pattern and time is truly fascinating and when you tie this in with your activity when you are awake (with all this data being broken down in a graph in a hour by hour basis) it really gets you thinking and understanding what you are doing right and wrong and the Vivofit helps you with this.

The most interesting thing is the little red bar. If you do no exercise for 1 hour you get a red bar than extra segments join it as you are inactive for every 15 minutes after this until you have got 4 of these, showing you have been inactive for 2 hours in total. So all you have to do is get up and walk 3 or 4 minutes and it all vanishes. This is true motivation, it gets you up and walking as there is nothing worse than looking at the red line.  So when you are at work it gets you up from your desk at lunchtime and just a very short walk gets you revitalised and the red line vanishes.

All in all I think the Vivofit is life changing. It is like having a personal trainer on your arm making you do what we all know we should be doing, keeping active. You can find out more here.
