What GPS Training Courses do we have coming up in 2015?
Mon 13th April 2015
In 2015 we have some great training courses coming up for Garmin, Satmap and those wanting to use a Map and Compass.
You can view all our courses online here, but if you want to know a little more about the courses we have on offer please do read on.
Garmin Courses 2015
Whether you are a complete novice just thinking that GPS may be a useful navigational tool, someone who has never managed to get to grips with the technology, or a GPS user who just wants to learn more, we have a course that will suit your needs and at a venue not too far from where you live.
Our courses are practical days with the minimum of class work and the maximum of hands-on experience either on a GPS learning how to navigate and getting to grips with GPS & OS Maps or on a computer finding out how you can use the manufacturers free PC based software to plan & share routes and manage user data like waypoints, routes & tracks.
We have found that our courses work best when they are dedicated to a particular brand; so we have moved from running courses open to all devices to courses dedicated to either Garmin new generation devices (New eTrex, Oregon 450/550 and 600 series, GPSMap62 & Montana and Monterra) or Satmap Active 10/12 and this has worked well for both tutors & students
We understand that you learn best in small groups, so we run our course on a student/tutor ratio of 1:6/7 with a maximum of 12/13 on a course where we use 2 tutors. However most of our courses are run by one tutor as we prefer it that way and we feel it offers a better student experience.
Our Garmin courses and prices for 2015:
Garmin Day 1 - £70.00 - Getting to Grips with GPS Navigation Basics - Download day layout here
Garmin Day 2 - £70.00 - Get the best from your Garmin Maps & BaseCamp - Download day layout here
Garmin Days 1 & 2 - £110.00 - Most of our Garmin customers opt to attend Day 1 & 2 on consecutive days; firstly because its a better learning experience and secondly when you book both courses on consecutive days you save £30 and get free access to our online Garmin GPS training resource worth another £9.99
GPS in the Hills - New course for Garmin owners for 2015
The aim of the course is to extend the basic GPS skills you may have learned on one of our 2 day Garmin GPS courses in a practical way on a day in the hills with one of our GPS experts.
At the beginning of the day you will take part in a brief planning session for the days expedition to the hills, send the planned routes & tracks to your GPS either wirelessly or by cable, and then set out as a small group to put good GPS navigation into practice.
This training day is not for GPS beginners and demands a certain level of fitness as the days walking could reach 2000’ to 2500’ (610 to 760 metres) and will be at least 6 miles (10km) in length with mostly rough walking on mountain footpaths. If you are thinking of joining us you must bring suitable and adequate clothing, footwear, food & drink for a day in the hills and be prepared for whatever weather the day throws at us.
GPS in the hills – Cost - £79.00

In response to your requests we now run courses exclusively for Satmap Active 10 and 12 owners who want to learn not only how to navigate using their Active 10/12 & premium maps but also how to use Xpedition to plan and share routes and user data online.
In the past we’ve been unable to offer courses with Xpedition as part of the course content as the tutor needs good quality broadband Internet access to demonstrate the use of eXpedition. For 2015 we are going to running our courses at Mungrisdale Village Hall in the North Lakes and Northumberland.
As with all our courses learning will be a mixture of indoor and outdoor learning on your Active 10/12. Those attending will learn how to navigate using their own Satmap Active 10/12 & Maps and learn how to plan & share user data like routes using Xpedition and then send to their Active 10/12 using SatSYNC.
This course right for you if?
You own an Active 10/12 GPS and wish to learn how you can navigate more safely on the hills, send user data like routes to/from your device & PC and make the most of the geocaching features on offer.
This course will cover Active 10/12 & Xpedition software; we will provide a setup sheet for the Active 10/12 and exercise worksheets for the use if Xpedition & SatSync software for you to keep for future reference and use on the day and we will explain all jargon & technical features as we go along.
