What happens when you press the SOS botton on a SPOT3 personal tracker
Thu 19th October 2017
The SPOT 3 person tracker enables other people to track you and you are able to send messages to friends and family.
All this is done using satellites, rather than a mobile phone signal.
The units also have a SOS button, but what happens when you press it.
This week we received an e-mail from somebody who did just that just over a week ago.

Because my angina medication failed to resolve the problem I used the SOS button on the SPOT Gen 3.
Within 5 mins or so I received a telephone call from the GEOS International Emergency Response Coordination Centre in Houston Texas.
Having confirmed the situation with me they then contacted the Welsh Ambulance Service who immediately contacted me and dispatched an ambulance.
In addition the GEOS IERCC also contacted both my emergency contacts and kept them updated even telling them which hospital I would be going to.
The annual subscription for SPOT may be a bit expensive but given my experience as a solo walker it was certainly money well spent.
