reviews
Below are all the reviews for this item, the average rating is:
Purchased the Garmin Montana 610 from GPS, excellent service, communication during purchase, and with a technical issue.A good solid unit, nice clear screen, easy to lock, set tracks, record, and have used to record routes, and on recce's to confirm route, location. Other ramblers have GPS units, and having seen the Montana 610 are slightly envious. The mapping is brilliant
I bought my Montana at the Geocaching Welsh Mega. The unit is a little heavy in the hand, compared to my previous Origen, but I soon got used to I, and the larger screen is which is clear and detailed even in bright sun light, make up for this. The Montana can hold a large number of geocaches, although it can slow the cache page loading, if you have a large number stored. The rechargeable battery is a great feature of this unit. the car cradle for the unit is a must by item, although it comes with a mains charger, and can also be charged through the USB cable.
I purchased a Montana 610 on the advice of GPS as I wanted a larger unit and this also allows for separate cycling and walking profiles which GPS set up for me. So far Ive only used it for walking and I am still getting to grips with the unit, so perhaps Im not as positive as I might be later on. Some people might find the unit too chunky but I like a large screen. As a first time user of Garmin, I have a couple of criticisms of the set up. First I find the display is not as clear as I would like. The colours are very washed out and the GPS signal could be much clearer, whilst GPX tracks are too large (especially with the very large pins of the track markers) and obscure what is underneath. (I am comparing it with Memory Map on my Samsung phone which is ultra-clear and where tracks and track markers, whilst in good strong colours, are much thinner and allow you to see what is underneath) Secondly, if you put the unit away in a pocket or holder, as I do, before the screen has gone off, something can get touched and then the screen locks. This means that you may have to turn the unit off and then on again several times on a walk, which is annoying when you are leading. Switching to the back light doesnt solve this problem so its a design fault. I have only asked for advice once but was impressed with the phone service and email follow on, and like the reassurance it is there
