Will my Active 10 / 12 maps work with the Active 20?
The Active 20 uses microSD cards, and since Oct 2015 Satmap has sold MapCards in this format (in SD Card adaptors).
Any existing users with old style SD MapCards who wish to upgrade to an Active 20 can use the Standard SD MapCard Consolidation Service for a small admin fee to consolidate and switch their MapCard collection to the newer microSD format. Please click here to see full details.
What is SatSYNC?
SatSYNC is a free piece of software for Windows that allows you to connect your Satmap GPS to your PC. With this software you can upload and download Routes, Trails and Points Of Interest. These files can be viewed, formatted and shared on Satmap Xpedition. You can view your trail on detailed topographical mapping, aerial or street maps with Satmap Xpedition.
What if I own a Mac?
SatSync for the Mac is currently being Beta Tested, but you can copy and paste GPX files direclty to the internal storage of the unit via your desktop.
What battery life can I expect from the different type of batteries?
The Active 20 has a unique dual-battery system that includes a long-life 5,100mAh rechargeable LiPol battery pack, and optionally, a AA Battery Pack which supports AA Lithium, NiMH, and Alkaline primary cells, giving uses a complete range of power sources. Using various power-saving options (including a flexible backlight timer and reduced frequency updates) battery duration of up to 16 hours can be achieved. Full-gas (100% backlight, no power saving and constant movement) battery life is 11 hours.
Battery life on any electronic item is always determined by how much you use it and the settings that are utilised. We always advise people to be sensible and use the various power saving options in Settings, such as Advanced Power Mode and the Automatic Screen turn off to extend battery life

I purchased the Satmap Active 20 solely for walking and I am very pleased with the unit. The best features are the large and clear display, very good battery life (although having a large battery does make it a little bulky) and the buttons and touch screen function really well.I did have a problem with a very tight USB connection which eventually failed but this problem was quickly sorted out by Andy at GPS Training. The support from GPS Training has been excellent.Although quite an expensive unit it has surpassed my expectations and I am very pleased with it.
I received excellent pre and after sales support from GPS Training - these guys really care and it shows!PositiveI purchased the Active 20 to replace my ageing 10, and I must say that it is a massive improvement, addressing all the shortcomings of the original model.The screen is sharper, brighter and scratch resistant thanks to Gorilla Glass. The software is more responsive and usability is improved by the touch interface, while retaining the physical buttons of old. Also, the 20 gets a satellite lock much faster thanks to the new receiver chip, which accesses the European and Russian systems as well as GPS. Another improvement is that when connected via USB, the unit appears as removable storage, so you can copy GPX files directly without having to use the clunky SatSync software. Battery life is much improved also, though the original model was OK in that respect.NegativeThere is quite a large gap between the battery module and the body of the Active 20 - I think the weather seals would still do their job, but I would expect better fit on a unit costing this much. The whole feel of the battery module when removing and re-fitting just feels cheap.
Started many years ago with Garmin Etrex and decided to upgrade to Garmin 64S. Sold on EBay after one month and bought Satmap Active 20.A great decision and I am impressed with the Unit. I would benefit with a course and will likely take one but at present it very easily satisfies.
