How to create Garmin Custom Maps for a Garmin GPS
How to create Garmin Custom Maps
If you own one of the latest Garmin handheld GPS units then you will almost certainly have OS Discoverer mapping for use when navigating in the UK and will have discovered that navigation becomes easier when you have a detailed map on the screen of your GPS.
Many walkers having become used to navigating with say an OS 50k Landranger map in the screen of their GPS would want the same quality of mapping on their worldwide travels.
Despite the growing breadth of digital maps like OS Discoverer designed specifically for Garmin outdoor handhelds, sometimes the best map for a specific activity is only available as a printed paper map or as a PDF or JPG file.
If you have the latest firmware update for your GPS can now create your own digital maps for your GPS using Garmin Custom Maps and Google Earth.
This unique feature allows users to combine Garmin map drawing technology with geo-referenced map images, effectively putting a paper map inside your Garmin GPS.
Creating a Garmin Custom Map for your Colorado, Oregon, or Dakota device is easy with a few simple steps.
However, please be responsible and only create a Garmin Custom Map from a map that is in the public domain, you hold the copyright in, or you have permission to use from the copyright holder.
